EA Outlines New Premium Download Content Strategy

New initiative offers paid "demos" prior to full game launches, say analyst.
Electronic Arts plans to offer extended downloadable demos for a price to players prior to the release of the full, packaged game, according to analyst Michael Pachter's latest investor report.

EA's Chief Operating Officer Nick Earl revealed the company's latest premium downloadable content (PDLC) strategy during a recent investor visit at its Redwood City studio, which includes charging a small price for an early look at upcoming titles.

The PDLC would be sold for $10 or $15 through Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, and would essentially be a very long game demo, along the lines of 2009's Battlefield 1943," Pachter said. "A full-blown packaged game would follow shortly after the release of the PDLC, bearing a full retail price. Mr. Earl believes that the release of the PDLC first limits the risk of completing and marketing the full packaged version, and serves as a low-cost marketing tool."

In a follow-up conversation with IGN, Pachter says these paid "demos" will act as a sort of beta test for the company, saying feedback received will shape the final retail product.

Think about Battlefield 1943 as the prototype, so a full (but short) game experience for a reasonable price," he said. "At the same time, an expanded version of the game will be under development for release as a packaged product."

However, the idea is that if the PDLC gets favorable reviews, it will build word of mouth for the boxed product. If the PDLC has issues, they can tweak the packaged product to address those issues, improving the final product before release," he added.

Pachter said he wasn't sure if EA plans to include the PDLC content with the packaged game, adding that the content could be a "prequel" to the full game so it can continue to be sold separately. The strategy is expected to launch during the company's fiscal 2011 year, which begins on April 1, 2010.

Update: Electronic Arts has responded to Pachter's report. The company told IGN it has not officially announced any pricing details for any projects, and that traditional free game demos will remain free.

EA is working on a number of projects for delivering premium content to consumers before, during, and after the launch of a packaged-goods version of the game," said Jeff Brown, VP of Corporate Communications. "EA SPORTS, EA Games and EA Play are each experimenting with download strategies that deliver fresh game content in formats players want to experience."

To date, there is no set pricing strategy for the entire EA portfolio. And many of the proposals include free-to-play content on models similar to Madden Ultimate Team, Battlefield Heroes and Battlefield 1943," he added.

"None of the proposals call for charging consumers for traditionally free game demos."

Jaimee Grubbs Feels Tiger Woods Owes Her An Apology

Feb 14, Jaimee Grubbs, the alleged mistress of disgraced golfer Tiger Woods, had demanded an apology from the philandering golfer for making her believe that she was the only one with whom he was having an extramarital affair. In a recent television interview, the Los Angeles cocktail waitress has expressed that she would like the World No.1 golfer to apologize to her for keeping her in dark about his relationships with other women.

The 23 year old waitress implied that she did not understand the reason for Tiger Woods’ insistence on continuing their relationship if he was already involved in sexual relationships with so many other women. At the same time, Jaimee Grubbs, who was allegedly involved in an illicit relationship with the champion golfer for a period of three years, also revealed that the entire Tiger Woods episode has left her extremely hurt as the ace golfer had made her believe that she was the only woman in his life apart from his Swedish model wife. Moreover, the cocktail waitress also talked about the golfer’s better half Elin Nordegren and added that she has no clue what to say to her former lover’s wife but accepted that the way things transpired between her and Tiger Woods was indeed selfish.

Although it seems that the entire sex scandal involving the champion golfer, has left his alleged mistress somewhat shaken, Tiger Woods seems to have been gradually emerging from the controversy, with his release from the Mississippi sex rehabilitation center. Tiger Woods and his wife are reportedly working on their relationship in a bid to save their marriage.

A Tale of St. Valentine’s Day

Every year, on February 14th, people everywhere send flowers, candies, and cards to their love-interests or “Valentines“. Ironically, it is not really known for sure where this ritual of love began. There are three saints, by the name of “Valentine” which are recognized by the Catholic Church, and all of them have been martyred.

One story tells us that Valentine, who was a priest in Rome during the Third Century, gave his life in the name of love and romance. Emperor Claudius II outlawed marriage for young males, because he felt that being single made a soldier better able to focus on victory than having a wife and family. Since only single men were expected to fight in wars, the Emperor felt that men were getting married to avoid going to war. Valentine felt the law was ludicrous and continued to perform marriages secretly, for the Christian men to whom marriage was such a sacred expression of their love. This story goes on to tell of how St. Valentine helped the Christians, who had been imprisoned by the Romans, escape from the horrible Roman jails where they were being tortured. Valentine was finally found out and was imprisoned himself. While in the jail, it is said that Valentine fell in love with the jailer’s daughter, who came to see him in his cell. He was reported to have sent her written tokens of his love, and ended them with the signature, “From Your Valentine” a saying which is still used today.The Christians were also said to have visited Valentine and left him little notes about how much better love is than war. According to legend, the Emperor actually liked Valentine, until Valentine tried to convert the Emperor to Christianity, at which point Valentine was ordered to be put to death.

It has also been said that Valentine’s Day goes back even farther and was traditionally a pagan tradition. Apparently, according to legend, the Roman’s celebrated this day in honor of the goddess of marriage, and queen of all the Roman gods and goddesses. One of the rituals included all of the women of a village putting their names into a box. The men of the village would draw a name out, and these two were paired off for a year. It is also said that the Romans celebrated February 15th as Lupercalia, which was in honor of the fertility god, Faunus. This celebration was performed by the men of the town sacrificing a goat, wearing goatskin, and running around slapping the females with small whips made of strips of goatskin dripped in blood. The women liked this and wanted to be hit with the whip, as it supposedly ensured fertility. Often, these couples ended in marriage. This tradition was said to have been changed by the Christian church because the “coupling before marriage” was morally degrading.

According to the pagan version of Valentine history, Emperor Gelasius changed the celebration to February 14th and named it as a Holy Day in honor of Valentine, instead of a day to honor the pagan gods or goddesses. This allowed the Christians to discard the moral uncleanliness of Valentine’ Day, so that they would be allowed to celebrate it as well. During the Renaissance, when love and romance were abounding so freely, Valentine’s Day took on more of the Holiday of Love that it has become today.

Valentine’s Day is no longer recognized as a religious holiday. The Catholic church took it off their calendars in 1969. It is a far more commercialized holiday than and history denotes, sadly, just as Christmas is becoming. In spite of this, many societies still frown on Valentine’s Day because of it’s history in Christianity. In India, it is said that some people threatened anyone who celebrated any Christian Holidays, including Valentine’s Day, and young couples who were caught in public on Valentine’s Day were assaulted. In Saudi Arabia, it was forbidden for Muslims to do anything at all to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Whether it was truly a pagan holiday or a Christian one first, does not seem to matter much now. Throughout history, Christians are the ones who seem to have risked and given their lives to celebrate love. For pagan and other religions it seems that Valentine’s Day was always simply a celebration and good time. Both versions of the story link it back to the sanctity of marriage.

Whichever version of the story of St. Valentine that you are most fond of, today this is a day set aside to show feelings of love, and to be romantic with your “Valentine.” Whether you choose to celebrate with chocolates and hearts, or dinner and wine, remember the stories of where this day came from, of those who died for love, and those who celebrated fertility and marriage. In the middle of all of the red cellophane and little message hearts, is a history, that is far greater than the money to be made by department stores by those who wish to celebrate “St. Valentines Day.” Use this day to show your love, not just in what you buy, but in who you are.

That is a Tale of Valentine’s Day. How much of the tale is truth, no one will ever know for sure. In honor of Love, and Romance, and all that this day now entails, I will be writing an article everyday until February 14th. I thought it would be good to start out with a little history of where this holiday came from. Beyonce’s Brazilian show ends in gunfire

Rio Di Janeiro, Feb 14 Beyonce’s show in Brazil was rocked by gunfire. Singer Beyonce fled from the stage, as the Brazilian police started gunfire on a group of teenagers, who were said to be the members of the local gang. The Brazilian police said that the local gang started shooting at people who were waiting for taxis, to go home, after the concert.

The singer’s show in Brazil was marred by violence, when a local gang outside the Parque de Exposicoes venue began shooting at fans leaving the arena, according to Britain’s Star Magazine. In response to the shooting by the local gang members, the police also opened fire, but fortunately no one was injured in the whole incident.

The 29-year-old Beyonce was not at all hurt in the incident, as she fled from the stage, when the shooting started. Later she was also mobbed when she went sight seeing at the famous Christ The Redeemer statue. Apart from Beyonce, Alicia Keys was also present in the city, to shoot a music video, in the slums of Brazil.

TCS to hire 30,000, 70 percent freshers

New Delhi: Tata Consultancy Services plans to hire 28,000 employees in India and 2,000 abroad in the financial year 2010-2011 and about 70 percent of recruitment will be freshers. The company is currently seeing an 8-10 percent growth in revenue from domestic operations and is eyeing a double-digit growth in the next two years.

TCS CEO and MD N Chandrasekaran said that the company will hike salaries of its employees in the coming fiscal, but did not give details, reports Financial Chronicle. TCS, has not hiked wages in the current fiscal, but employees have received 150 percent VA payouts in two consecutive quarters - second and third quarters of FY10.

"We are on a path to hire 1,000 people. We have already hired 300," he said, replying to a query on hiring plans for the current fiscal. In Q3 of FY10, TCS had made 7,692 net additions, compared with a net addition of 320 in the previous quarter.

Asked about the extent to which India would be affected by the U.S. move to slash tax-breaks to outsourcers, Chandrasekaran said the matter is not an immediate concern. Also Chandrasekaran said, "China is a tough market for IT firms and the company was seeing business opportunity in Europe." Chandrasekaran said the company had signed a few large deals as well as a number of smaller ones. "The financial services sector will drive growth. We expect good growth from retail, pharma and utilities," he said.

Auto driver turns web entrepreneur

Chennai: An auto rickshaw driver from Chennai, M Samson has studied only till Standard-VII, but understands the medium of internet and online banner advertisements better than many local businessmen available in the society.

Samson runs an advertising website named as NetwayAdvertise.com. Talking to Satrajit Sen of AlooTechie, Samson said, "I started this website mainly for local businessmen who can't advertise in print or TV due to their high ad rates." Samson charges Rs.500 a year for hosting a display ad. Currently, there are about 15 banner ads running on the site and with that rate, he earns around Rs.7,500 a year from his online advertising business. The expenditures for the portal include a fee of Rs.2,000 per year for site maintenance and upgrading the domain registration, and a payment of Rs 60 to the webmaster for creating and uploading each banner ad.

It was not an easy journey for a local auto rickshaw driver to learn about the internet medium and the ways of earning money through that, but the ability to learn new things and earn more money helped Samson to reach where he is today. According to Samson, he was first introduced to the world of internet in 1997 by a traveller from Japan who taught Samson how to access and use Hotmail so that he could communicate with his foreign clients, whenever they would want to visit the city. Gradually, Samson became familiar with emails, and also came to know that news and information can be gathered from internet. In 2006, a British Airways co-pilot, who was Samson's client then, saw him accessing hotmail and gave him the idea to advertise his services on internet. "Initially, I couldn't understand how one can advertise on internet. So, my client from British Airways explained to me the concept of a website and how it could be used to communicate across the world. I asked him to help me in setting up the site and he was the person who went back to London and designed the website TukTastic.com for me," Samson said. [TukTastic is a play with two words Tuk-Tuk, which means an auto rickshaw, and fantastic.

Once the site was launched, Samson started getting a lot of queries on email and SMS from travellers. "Though, I can't recount the numbers, most of the queries came from the foreigners. But gradually Indians were also catching up to the number of queries. Presently, I get between three to five queries every day," said Samson. Later on, Samson told some of his businessmen friends about TukTastic and explained the global nature of internet, some of them became interested and wanted to advertise their business as well on internet. But they didn't know where to go. "I saw this as an opportunity to earn money and thus launched the online advertising site NetwayAdvertise.com to help my friends," said he.

Now with Internet becoming one of the fastest growing medium to connect with people across the world, many people may try to follow the path of M Samson and try to do something different in life.

Women love mobiles more than men

Melbourne: Many girls are more interested in their mobile phones than their men as a survey revealed. In a survey of 4,000 women living in Australia, carried out by British pawnbroker Borro to know their most treasured possessions, four in every 10 women said they would be lost without their mobiles, but would happily go without a man in their life.

The study claims that besides mother and mobile, women treasured their friends more than their men, reports The Daily Telegraph. Majority of the women surveyed consider their mothers to be their most prized possession followed closely by their photographs and then their mobile phone.

The survey's results showed the changing focus of what is important in many women's lives, said Anne Hollands from Relationship Australia. "I think it fits within the fact that we are very focused on our own lives these days," Hollands added.

Google’s AdMob Acquisition Meets Opposition from Consumer Groups

Is Google simply buying its way into the mobile advertising market via its $750 million acquisition of AdMob? That’s what two consumer groups allege in a letter sent to the FTC today, as the organization continues to review the deal.
Consumer Watchdog and the Center for Digital Democracy (CDD) write: “Consumers will face higher prices, less innovation and fewer choices. The FTC should conduct the appropriate investigation, block the proposed Google/AdMob deal, and also address the privacy issues.”

The groups are concerned both about what they perceive as ongoing anti-competitive behavior from GoogleGoogle, as well as the vast amount of data that the AdMob deal makes them privy to. As an example, they write, “Data about competing smartphone users and applications, gathered through the Google/AdMob advertising network, could give Google information about its competitors that would be advantageous in marketing its new smartphone [Nexus One], as well models using its AndroidAndroid operating system.”
It’s no secret that data is at the heart of what Google does, and where it’s going. Look no further than two recently announced early stage projects — Google Public DNS and SPDY (a potential alternative to HTTP) — to see how far these ambitions reach.
Is Google’s plan then to capitalize on all of that data to both serve better ads and design better products (ala mobile)? It would seem so. Is that anti-competitive or just good business? I lean towards the latter for now, but how the FTC handles the AdMob deal could be a good barometer of how Google’s able to extend its reach in the future within the limits of regulators.

Fort Hood, Nov 6: Fort Hood shooter who infamously shot 13 people and injured dozens apparently shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’ before starting his shooting spree.
‘The thirty-nine year old devout Muslim gunman, Major Nidal Malik Hasan, shouted the phrase ‘Allahu Akbar” which is Arabic for “God is great!” just before he began his shooting spree at Fort Hood military installation yesterday’, according to the base commander, Lieutenant General Robert Cone.
Contrary to initial reports, the heartless shooter is alive but has not yet been investigated yet by the police and army officers, as he is on a ventilator. “He is in a stable condition,” an army medical spokesman said.
However the same can’t be said about his victims. Some of the victims were shot multiple times, and out of the 10 injured victims, 6 were in critical state and were taken straight to the ICU for treatment and monitoring.
Internal shooting at a place that the soldiers call ‘home’ has shaken many. “I’m pretty shocked and bewildered,” Spc. Eric Blohm said, “Going to war and experiencing combat overseas and then … to have your sense of security shattered, that’s just kind of unreal.” “I thought I was more worried about my daughter going over to Iraq than here, just doing training in Texas. She just got there yesterday,” said McCarty, mother of a solider.

8 injured in Orlando’s Gateway Centre shooting

There has been a mass shooting incident in downtown Orlando on Friday at the Gateway Center and at least 8 casualties have been reported. The injured have been rushed to the hospital. Police officers have reached the scene of crime and are bringing order into the shooting scene. The Orlando Fire Department is also helping in the rescue efforts. The police also said there were multiple victims involved.
A 911 call came in around 11.30 a.m. local time, according to the Orlando Fire Department. The caller reported that there was gunfire on the eighth floor of the high-rise building.
According to a spokeswoman, at least eight casualties were taken from the building. Four of the injured are in a very critical state and while the condition of the others is not yet known. The spokeswoman also feared that there might be some more victims inside, which are still not rescued.
Other details are still awaited. It is still not clear what initiated the shootings and the main motive behind it. The gunman who is responsible for the shootings is still at large and hasn’t been arrested as yet.
According to latest reports, the office building is under lock down.

Pneumonia kills more children than any other disease. Every 15 seconds it claims another child. Two million (twenty lakhs) children (less than 5 years) die of pneumonia every year. This is when diagnosis and treatment of pneumonia is widely available and affordable, says experts on the first-ever World Pneumonia Day on 2nd of November 2009.
“Pneumonia is the leading cause of death in children worldwide. Pneumonia kills an estimated 2 million children every year – more than AIDS, malaria and measles combined” says Professor (Dr) Rama Kant, the World Health Organization (WHO)’s International Awardee 2005 and Head of the Department of Surgery, CSM Medical University (upgraded King George’s Medical College - KGMC).
Pneumonia is a form of acute respiratory infection that affects the lungs. The lungs are made up of small sacs called alveoli, which fill with air when a healthy person breathes. When an individual has pneumonia, the alveoli are filled with pus and fluid, which makes breathing painful and limits oxygen intake.
“Pneumonia can be caused by viruses, bacteria, fungi or chemicals. Pneumonia can be prevented by immunization, adequate nutrition and by addressing environmental factors such as enforcing smoke-free laws and patient-safety practices. Pneumonia can be treated with antibiotics, but according to the WHO, less than 20% of children with pneumonia receive the antibiotics they need” says Prof Kant. “Recently Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP), Pneumonia in immuno-compromised states like diabetes mellitus and AIDS, has caused resurgence of this serious problem” adds Prof Kant. “This can occur at any age and is irrespective of gender. Nosocomial infections (hospital born) are most of the times resistant to antibiotics and have a high mortality. The infections in early stage in such situations might respond to recent, much broad-spectrum and expensive antibiotics but late Pneumonia are commonly resistant and have high mortality. Use of infected endo-tracheal tubes, oxygen masks and anaesthesia gas tubes can also be responsible for such grave situations. Here only patient safety practices can save patients” cautions Prof Kant, who is the former Chief Medical Superintendent of Gandhi Memorial & Associated Hospitals, CSMMU.
“VAP has become important because of use of ventilator in serious patients of trauma, burn, neuro-surgical problems and surgery for instance” says Prof Rama Kant.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Pneumonia is the single largest cause of death in children worldwide. “Every year, it kills an estimated 1.8 million children under the age of five years, accounting for 20% of all deaths of children under five years old worldwide. There are some 155 million cases of childhood pneumonia every year in the world. Pneumonia affects children and families everywhere, but is most prevalent in South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. It can be prevented with simple interventions, and treated with low-cost, low-tech medication and care” says WHO site.
Pneumonia can be spread in a number of ways. The viruses and bacteria that are commonly found in a child’s nose or throat, can infect the lungs if they are inhaled. They may also spread via air-borne droplets from a cough or sneeze. In addition, pneumonia may spread through blood, especially during and shortly after birth. More research needs to be done on the different pathogens causing pneumonia and the ways they are transmitted, as this has critical importance for treatment and prevention.
The symptoms of viral and bacterial pneumonia are similar. However, the symptoms of viral pneumonia may be more numerous than the symptoms of bacterial pneumonia.
When pneumonia becomes severe, children may experience lower chest wall indrawing, where their chests move in or retract during inhalation (in a healthy person, the chest expands during inhalation). Infants may be unable to feed or drink and may also experience unconsciousness, hypothermia and convulsions.
While most healthy children can fight the infection with their natural defences, children whose immune systems are compromised are at higher risk of developing pneumonia. A child’s immune system may be weakened by malnutrition or undernourishment, especially in infants who are not exclusively breastfed.
Pre-existing illnesses, such as symptomatic HIV infections and measles, also increase a child’s risk of contracting pneumonia.
The following environmental factors also increase a child’s susceptibility to pneumonia:
* indoor air pollution caused by cooking and heating with biomass fuels (such as wood or dung)
* living in crowded homes
* parental smoking.
“In India, on 2nd October 2008, the smoke-free laws were implemented country-wide, in line with the Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act (2003) and also the global tobacco treaty (Famework Convention on Tobacco Control - FCTC) which India has ratified in 2005. The implementation of smoke-free laws has been far from ideal - and this needs to be implemented strictly - not only to harness tobacco control outcomes but also broader public health, environmental and social justice outcomes this law aims to deliver” says WHO’s Director-General’s Awardee on tobacco control for the year 2005 Professor (Dr) Rama Kant. Parental smoking is one of the key factors to increase child’s susceptibility to pneumonia, says Professor (Dr) Rama Kant.
Pneumonia can be treated with antibiotics. These are usually prescribed at a health centre or hospital, but the vast majority of cases of childhood pneumonia can be administered effectively within the home. Hospitalization is recommended in infants aged two months and younger, and also in very severe cases.
Preventing pneumonia in children is an essential component of a strategy to reduce child mortality. Immunization against Hib, pneumococcus, measles and whooping cough (pertussis) is the most effective way to prevent pneumonia.
Adequate nutrition is key to improving children’s natural defences, starting with exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life. This is also effective in preventing pneumonia and reducing the length of the illness.
Addressing environmental factors such as indoor air pollution (by providing affordable clean indoor stoves, for example) and encouraging good hygiene in crowded homes also reduces the number of children who fall ill with pneumonia.
In children infected with HIV, the antibiotic cotrimoxazole is given daily to decrease the risk of contracting pneumonia.
A very effective and important preventive method for pneumonia and other conditions too is proper hand washing, informs Prof Kant.

Romantic comedy “Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani”, which stars Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif, has sent the box office cash registers ringing, elbowing out Madhur Bhandarkar’s “Jail” on the first day Friday.
“‘Ajab Prem Ki…’ has got a terrific initial thanks to the star cast but it will suffer on the content part. While ‘Jail’ has had a very slow opening…that of only around 20 percent. Shelf life for both movies is only limited till Monday,” Joginder Mahajan, a Delhi-based distributor told IANS.
Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Ramesh S. Taurani, “Ajab Prem Ki…” also has superstar Salman Khan in a special appearance.
On the other hand, “Jail” has been co-produced by Percept Picture Company and Bhandarkar Entertainment and is the story of a common man who lands up in prison for unknown reasons. Starring Neil Nitin Mukesh and Mugdha Godse in the lead, it also has Manoj Bajpai in a pivotal role.
“‘Ajab Prem Ki…’ has got a tremendous opening. It is a totally entertaining movie for both classes and masses and a complete family watch with good acting, fast tempo and nice packaging. Audiences are loving it,” said a source from Big Cinemas.
“‘Jail’, however, deals with serious issues. Though Madhur Bhandarkar has proven his mettle with the film, the box office success of this one is doubtful as a family would think twice before watching it,” the source added.
Yogesh Raizada, corporate head, Wave Cinemas, has a different opinion.
“The Ranbir Kapoor-starrer has got an average occupancy of above 80 percent and that is obvious because of the comedy and romance element. But despite a 40 percent start, ‘Jail’ is very strong on content and is being appreciated a lot by the audiences and critics both,” said Raizada.
“Both movies should at least extend for one weekend without fail. ‘Jail’ will definitely pick up Saturday onwards despite being only for a niche clientèle,” he added.

PVR ties up with Summit Entertainment

New Delhi, Nov 5 (IANS) PVR Pictures, the production and distribution arm of cinema chain by the same name, has inked a deal with independent American film studio Summit Entertainment for release of films under its banner in India, a statement said here Thursday.
“By joining hands with Summit Entertainment, we have yet again given an impetus to raising the bar to provide world class entertainment to India. We are at the helm of business of entertainment and the year ahead is a very exciting one for us in terms of growth, business expansion and rich myriad slate of releases lined up,” said Sanjeev K. Bijli, joint managing director of PVR Ltd.
As a part of the pact, PVR Pictures will distribute all films produced, co-produced and distributed by Summit Entertainment in India - starting with last year’s blockbuster hit vampire movie “Twilight” Nov 20.
Based on the best-selling series by American author Stephenie Meyer, “The Twilight Saga: New Moon”, a sequel to “Twilight” will also be released here Dec 4.
The sequel is releasing Nov 20 worldwide.
Other films to be released in the country, would be “Pandorum”, “Astro Boy”, “Bandslam” and “Sorority Row” among others.
PVR also has existing distribution deals for the domestic region with Focus Features, Miramax and other independent studios.

Mumbai, Nov 5(ANI): Bollywood actors Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan and Sharman Joshi on Thursday unveiled the first look of their upcoming film ‘3 Idiots’ in Mumbai.
‘3 Idiots’ is a celluloid adaptation of author Chetan Bhagat’s best selling fiction ‘Five Point Someone’.
Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the movie ‘3 Idiots’ is a story of three friends whose dismal grade point averages at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) influenced their friendship, love life and career choices.
Addressing the media while presenting the maiden look of their film, Aamir Khan said that film is inspired from individuals, who were considered to be idiots for working on certain causes, but finally made a mark changing a lot in society.
“There are many people like this in history. When we see them initially, we feel amused, but later on we realize that they are doing the right thing. So, the tag line of the film is ‘Don’t be stupid, be an idiot’. Stupid is someone who is ‘bewakoof’ (unintelligent), but being an idiot is a good thing and not wrong. People would realize this if not today, but surely in the future,” Aamir Khan said.
Aamir plays the character of Rancho, who is a free-spirited young man and ever confused about kissing.
Indeed, he has tasted success playing roles of a college student in movies such as ‘Dil Chahta Hai’, ‘Rang de Basanti’ and now it is the turn of ‘3 Idiots’.

Chandigarh teacher showed kids pornographic sites: Parents

Chandigarh, Nov 5 (IANS) Parents of a child studying in a private school here Thursday filed a complaint with the union territory authorities alleging that a teacher of the school was showing kids pornographic websites. The UT education department has asked the school to respond to the allegations.
T.K. Goyal and Meeta Goyal, parents of a Class 7 student of St Johns High School, Thursday submitted a written complaint in this regard to the union territory Home-cum-Education Secretary Ram Niwas.
In their complaint, the couple alleged that the arts teacher of the school, Michaelongelo Francis, had shown to students pornographic websites on his mobile and laptop.
They also alleged that Francis was forcing students to bring mobile phones to school and asking them to join adult communities on the internet.
“After receiving the complaint, the education secretary has directed the district education officer (DEO) to look into the matter. The DEO has directed the school to furnish detailed comments over the allegations levelled by the parents, in the next two days,” a senior official of union territory education department told IANS here Thursday evening.
Parents of the child had submitted a separate complaint to the school principal Nov 3.
School authorities maintained that they had already initiated a probe into this matter.
“We have already initiated our probe and designated an inquiry officer. We have told the complainant to produce all proofs that he has in front of the school’s managing committee in the next 24 hours,” said Kavita C. Das, school principal, in a statement issued here Thursday evening.
She added: “Michaelangelo had submitted his reply today (Thursday) in which he had point wise, categorically denied all the allegations. He has voluntarily proceeded on leave so that the school management can conduct a free and fair inquiry.”

Lucknow, Nov 5 (IANS) Former Miss India and actor-social activist Nafisa Ali, who was the Samajwadi Party’s (SP) candidate for the Lucknow Lok Sabha seat, Thursday termed her decision to leave the Congress and join the Mulayam Singh Yadav-led party as “a mistake”.
“My decision to contest the last Lok Sabha elections on the SP ticket was wrong. I am happy to rejoin the (Congress) party that is akin to my family,” Ali told reporters at a press conference here.
Ali said she had even apologised to Congress president Sonia Gandhi for her “mistake”. “After I realised my mistake, I had apologized to Soniaji. She has forgiven me for the wrong decision,” she added.
Hitting out at the SP, Ali said: “I joined the SP as I thought it will help me weaken communal forces. However, later I was not impressed with the functioning of the SP and realised that I cannot achieve the desired objective by working against the Congress.”

‘New York’ to open Cairo film fest

New Delhi, Nov 3 (IANS) Yash Raj Films’ “New York” has been selected as the opening film at the 33rd Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) 2009.
The film will also compete in the 'In Competition’ section at the fest, to be held Nov 10-Nov 20.

Directed by Kabir Khan who will also attend the event, the film stars John Abraham, Katrina Kaif, Neil Nitin Mukesh in the lead apart from Irrfan Khan in a pivotal role.
Recently screened at the Pusan International Film Festival, “New York” released over 900 screens worldwide on June 26 this year. It is a contemporary story of three young friends whose lives are turned upside down by post-9/11 prejudices.
Also attending the festival will be Hollywood stars like Samuel L. Jackson, Lucy Liu and Tom Berenger.

Hyderabad gets a Fashion Week

The designers participating in the event are Archana Kochhar, Deepak and Pooja Shah, Dipti Reddy, Lina Tipnis, Shaahid Amir, Soumitra Mondal, Abdul Kochhar and Swapnil Shinde. Designer Swapnil Shinde is excited about the event and sees it as an opportunity for fashion to spread in Hyderabad. The show’s director, Lovell Prabhu, stated that the show was being planned for around a year but due to some reasons like Chief Minister Reddy’s sudden demise and to not clash with the other fashion weeks, they decided to wait a little. The fashion week will be very local with the designers showcasing their designs of the Fall/Festive season. Nana apologetic over bad behavior

Nana Patekar is truly sorry about the argument that took place between him and Prakash Jha last week. He is sad that he lets his temper take over him. The actor is sad about what he has done but he wishes Jha wouldn’t have gone about discussing the issue with the media as they were very good old friends.
Nana explained that the reason he got angry is because he had to play Lord Krishna’s avatar and sing a little for his character. Tokyo, Oct 25 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Burger King has released a huge seven-patty Whopper to mark the release of Microsoft’s Windows 7. In a bizarre cross-promotional campaign move, Microsoft linked up with the fast-food chain to create the ‘Windows 7 Whopper’, which has record 7 patties in it.
The fatty burger has more than 2500 calories, is around 5.1 inches tall and costs just 777 yen, which is not a surprise, considering that it’s meant to promote Windows 7. It went on sale in various Burger King outlets in Japan on Friday to coincide with the release of the new operating system, Microsoft’s Windows 7.
Microsoft’s promotional department went out of their way to promote the Windows 7. 13 new swine flu deaths take India’s toll to 444

New Delhi, Oct 25 (IANS) Thirteen new swine flu deaths were reported Sunday, taking the total toll in India due to Influenza A(H1N1) virus to 444, health authorities said here.
For the first time, Punjab and Mizoram reported deaths - one each - since the first death was reported in the country Aug 3.
The maximum deaths were from Maharashtra where 11 people died since Friday. The total toll in the state has now touched 185 - the highest in the country.
Kerala, where 10 deaths had occured earlier, also recorded two new casualties.
Also, 90 new cases were recorded Sunday. With this the total number of people affected with the contagious virus has gone up to 13,232.
Of the 90 cases, 22 alone were from Karnataka.
The other states where new cases were reported were - Maharashtra (21), Delhi (17), Andhra Pradesh (5) and Kerala (12).

Mumbai’s top snake-man falls to cobra attack

Mumbai, Oct 25 (IANS) Mumbai’s well-known snake-catcher and conservationist Sunil S. Ranade, credited with rescuing over 15,000 snakes in the past 15 years, died after he was bitten by a cobra Sunday, an official said.
Ranade, 37, was rescuing snakes, reptiles and other wild creatures since over two decades. He was working as animal inspector with the 136-year old Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, in its Parel hospital, according to Col. J. C. Khanna, the SPCA secretary. “Yesterday (Saturday), he had rescued a cobra from somewhere and had kept it in a container in his home in the hospital premises. Around 2.30 a.m., he had gone to feed the creature when it suddenly attacked him. It’s a truly an unfortunate incident.” Khanna, a member of Animal Welfare Board of India, told IANS.
At the time of the incident, his wife with their two daughters - aged 10 and 3 - had gone to his father-in-law’s home in Malad suburb.
Hearing a commotion from Ranade’s quarters, some neighbours and other staffers rushed there to see him lying semi-conscious and writhing in pain.
They summoned an ambulance and shifted him to a nearby hospital where he succumbed after a few minutes.
“He was an expert on reptiles, especially snakes. He even had emergency vaccines and a pump to remove poison at home. Despite all precautions, we are sad that he met his end in this manner,” Khanna said.
The incident is akin to the death of the famous Australian conservationist Steve Irwin in September 2006 when he was shooting for a Discovery Channel programme undersea when a poisonous stingray (fish) attacked him. Steve died later.
Khanna assured Ranade’s family that since he was the sole breadwinner, the organisation would provide all necessary assistance to his surviving family members.
Ranade was the first person Mumbaikars would contact in case of any encounters with reptiles or other wild creatures in and around the city.
During the great Mumbai floods of July 26, 2005, Ranade had rescued nearly 100 snakes from different parts of the city and after treating them, released them in the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP).

Most American movies enthrall audience worldwide with their creative exuberance, but media baron Rupert Murdoch feels it is India's Hindi film industry Bollywood that influences Hollywood, both financially and creatively.

For Murdoch, whose business empire stretches from newspapers to television channels to filmed entertainment, among others, India is more welcoming of competition in the media industry.

"India, which far, far earlier in the economic development cycle, has been more welcoming of competition and so Bollywood has come to influence Hollywood, financially and creatively," media conglomerate News Corp Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Rupert Murdoch has said.

Fox Filmed Entertainment from the News Corp is a leading entity in movie production and distribution. Further, the group's Twentieth Century Fox Film has churned out top grossing movies including the multi-Oscar winner Titanic.

There have been increasing collaborations between the Indian film industry and Hollywood in the recent times. Earlier this year, billionaire industrialist Anil Ambani announced a partnership with ace film maker Steven Spielberg for producing films, in a deal worth millions of dollars.

Applauding the diverse and growing media industry in India, Murdoch noted the great winners of this progress are
the people of India.

"A willingness to allow international companies into the domestic television market has prompted local companies to improve their production quality.

Hollywood's calling A.R. Rahman

MUMBAI, India — Hollywood is finally getting to know A.R. Rahman, the short, humble and deeply religious man who took two Oscars home to southern India for his work on "Slumdog Millionaire."
In the eight months since Slumdog's surprise Oscar sweep, Rahman has survived the rage of felicitation that hit him when he returned to India — even the prime minister offered his congratulations — and embarked on countless lunches with studio executives in L.A. eager to match him with that perfect new film.
In between, he's managed to score two movies, hatched plans with Dave Stewart of Eurythmics to start a band, and is putting together a new solo album.
The Oscars, Rahman said, "got me an identity in the West."
"There won't be any doubts looking at me: Who are you? What are you doing here?" he said by phone from Medina, Saudi Arabia. "I don't have to prove again I can do this and that, and rather can just be cool about my musical statement."
His latest composition is for "Couple's Retreat," a yoga-inflected romantic comedy written, produced by and starring Vince Vaughn, released Friday by Universal Studios.
He spent nearly three months working on "Couple's Retreat," first in London and then in L.A.
"L.A. helped me hide," Rahman said. "I can walk on the streets, which I can't do in India. I can go to a coffee shop and sit there. I have so much freedom, whereas in India I get mobbed."
In India, Rahman enjoys a fanatical pop-star fame that stretches from barefoot slum kids playing cricket to the richest matrons of Mumbai. He has won 18 Filmfare Awards, three MTV Awards, and six Tamil Nadu State Awards, among others. In 2000, he was conferred the highest civilian honor in India, the Padma Shri, for his contributions to the film industry.
But that somehow didn't translate. "Slumdog" did.
Now, Rahman said, he's not just getting work from Hollywood, he's getting good work — projects for which he can set his own artistic terms.
"Since the Oscars and all the appreciation, people come for what I am," he said.
The new album — for Interscope Records, which produced the blockbuster soundtrack to "Slumdog" — is still in its early stages, but Rahman said he hopes to bring together experienced artists like Lady GaGa and M.I.A. with "some really new talents."
"After 'Jai Ho' became number one in 17 countries, they were very excited and said, 'Why don't you do a whole album?'" Rahman said.
He keeps working on his pet project: A classical conservatory he opened two years ago in his hometown of Chennai, in southern India. About 130 students are learning the vanishing arts of the viola, violin and acoustic piano. Rahman said he's also teaching them Indian classical music and electronic composition — the same motley but fortuitous set of skills that holds together his own career.
The "Couple's Retreat" soundtrack veers from the South Indian Carnatic harmonies of "Undressing" to the hip-hop inflected "NaNa." Shyam Benegal, an award-winning Indian director — he also got the Padma Shri — who hired Rahman to make music for two of his films, says Rahman has created "a musical bridge."
"He has bridged the musical distance between the way the Western ear responds and the way the Indian ear responds," he said. "It's very difficult to say how."
The foundations of that bridge were laid when Rahman was a child. After his composer father died, Rahman took up playing the keyboard for movies in south India's burgeoning Tamil-language film industry. He was just 12.
"I had to work because we had the keyboards," he said. "My mother said, 'Why don't you learn them? It's such an advantage for you to have them.'"
"I was almost the breadwinner of the family," he added.
After studying under several masters of classical Indian music, he won a scholarship to the Trinity College of Music in London and took a degree in Western classical music. His break in India came when he was 23 and noted director Mani Ratnam asked him to score his film "Roja."
Since then he's worked on over 100 movies in India.
"His fees have gone up a lot," said director Benegal. "He may be the most expensive composer in India today working on films. That he is. But what he gives to you, even in financial terms, the recovery is almost instantaneous."
Still, Hollywood's remunerative embrace could price India's favorite son out of his home market.
"If he charged me Hollywood rates," Benegal said, "I wouldn't be able to pay."

Zombieland (2009) Review

WHAT’S IT ABOUT?

An American wasteland overrun by undead monsters provides the ideal setting for outrageous comedy in Zombieland, the debut feature from writer/director Ruben Fleischer. Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg play two human survivors who employ contrasting approaches to staving off the pesky flesh-eaters. Eisenberg’s Columbus is a neurotic worry-wart with a distinct obsessive-compulsive streak and a nagging case of irritable bowel syndrome who survives in Zombieland by adhering to a strict set of rules. Harrelson’s Tallahassee, on the other hand, is a whiskey-swilling cowboy who has no apparent rules of any kind, only a vast arsenal of weapons and an insatiable craving for Twinkies.

After encountering each other on a deserted highway, the two opposites decide to join forces, if only to stave off the maddening solitude of Zombieland. But their numbers soon double when, during an abortive Twinkies expedition at an abandoned supermarket, they’re surprised to find a pair of enterprising young girls, Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin), hiding out in the stockroom. (All the characters are named after their hometowns, if you haven’t figured that out already.)

Though their relationship gets off to a rough start (the seemingly innocent girls rob the gullible boys not once, but twice), the unlikely quartet become fast friends, and together embark on the perilous journey out west — to an abandoned theme park thought to be the only zombie-free sanctuary left on the planet.

THE VERDICT

It may be tempting to compare Zombieland to Shaun of the Dead, thus far the most successful zombie-themed horror-comedy to date, but Fleischer’s film bears little resemblance to UK director Edgar Wright’s indie classic. At its core, Zombieland is really a road-trip comedy in the vein of Vacation, Dumb and Dumber or, well, Road Trip, in which our heroes travel cross-country on a quest, encountering various obstacles along the way. In this case, the obstacles happen to be ravenous, cannibalistic zombies.

And it works, thanks largely the charisma and chemistry of its lead actors and the irreverent wit of Fleischer, who proves that there are still plenty of laughs to be gleaned from the increasingly well-worn zombie oeuvre.

The real hero of Zombieland, however, is Bill Murray. Just when the film exhausts its momentum and starts to meander, the legendary star of Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day arrives unexpectedly on the scene, delivering what is bound to be the most talked-about surprise cameo since Will Ferrell showed up at the end of Wedding Crashers. The presence of Murray and his trademark acerbic, deadpan style injects Zombieland with a welcome jolt of energy, giving it just enough gas to carry us through to the closing credits. (FYI: This is hardly a spoiler — Murray’s cameo is listed on IMDB.)

PARTING SHOT

Zombieland isn’t concerned about messages or metaphors or stern warnings about the future in which society is headed; it just wants to make you laugh and have a good time. In that sense, it’s an unqualified success.

Speaking about the toll-taking filming, Marshall told press: “She [Penelope] does all this work with ropes--she was swinging on them and it was scary, and she had formed calluses and her hands were bleeding. We had told her she should wear gloves, but she was like
: ‘No--I have to feel it.’”

He added: “There’s this huge sheath of pink satin that she slides down on. When we finished the scene, she had disappeared behind the satin and was in tears.”

While the whole scenario sounds quite unpleasant, Penelope said that she “loved every second. I want to install ropes in my bedroom, so I don’t have to let go of it.”

Amy Winehouse Steps Out for “Strictly Come Dancing”

The “Rehab” crooner was fresh off of a performing appearance on the BBC show “Strictly Come Dancing” - during which she provided backup vocals for her god-daughter, Dionne Bromfield.

During the show, Miss Bromfield gave a strong performance of her single “Mama Said,” while Amy received less-than stellar reviews calling her presence “uncertain” and “shaky”.

Aside from helping out her god-daughter, Miss Winehouse will be releasing her long-awaited third album next year.

Yes, Miley axed her Twitter page because Liam Hemsworth - CLEARLY her boyfriend at this point - asked her to. It reads as though Hemsworth was upset with the coverage he and Miley's relationship has received, a fact that Cyrus blames on the media.

Here's a crazy idea, Miles: instead of slapping all two million of your Twitter followers in the face, and blaming journalists for writing about the information you posted, perhaps you could have simply scaled back your Tweets.

Now, no one wins.

Fans can't follow one of their favorite stars; Cyrus can't get sympathy from her constant, whining messages; and we can't make fun of her for such desperate pleas for attention.

It's all very upsetting.

Negative stories about Salman are all cooked up: Asin

Asin Thottumkal was told horror stories about Salman Khan when she signed ‘London Dreams’ opposite him. But all the misgivings were sorted out once she started shooting with him, Asin says and stresses that all negative stories about the superstar are "cooked up".
"Really, it was all so strange because even before reporting for the film`s shoot, there was this particular notion being built in my mind around Salman.

"See, we all know about Aamir Khan being so disciplined. So once I signed `London Dreams` with Salman, various kinds of stories started coming my way. People commented that `Aah, you have worked with Aamir; now see what it is to be with Salman`," Asin told reporters.

But the actress didn`t face any problems throughout the making of "London Dreams".

"It is nothing less than a case study of its own. I can slice and dice a dozen-odd instances when it was proved time and again that Salman was nothing like he was being made out to be.

"I have absolutely no clue how negative stories about him keep emerging out of nowhere. As I look at them today, I believe these are all someone`s cooked up imaginations," said Asin.

Other than the fact that Salman contributed to the scheduled completion of the film, he too didn`t allow his personal problems to come in the way of "London Dreams".

"Let me begin with the misconception of Salman being not punctual. Our first schedule took place abroad and it was wrapped up many days in advance. This means that it was a disciplined shoot and everyone including Salman was punctual. There was absolutely no tardiness on his part and he was always on time," she said.

She also narrated the incident when Salman`s dog died.

"Everyone knows that Salman is so close to his dog. Even when his dog died, he didn`t call to cancel the shoot for that day. Instead, he turned up for the shoot in Karjat. It would have been even more difficult since he had to shoot for a happy and rejoicing song," Asin said.

Even in front of the camera, she didn`t face any issues working with Salman. Just like Aamir, Salman too just went ahead with his part and didn`t interfere in the way Asin wanted to approach her scenes.

"Whether it was Aamir in `Ghajini` or Salman in `London Dreams`, I didn`t have to make any changes to adapt to their working style. They made me feel really comfortable. I was free to do things the way I wanted to because Aamir is very chilled out and he goes about his own job without interfering.

"Same is true with Salman. He doesn`t come to you and tell you how you should be approaching your character. That is why it was so cool working in `London Dreams`. I am still surprised at why people have negative things to say about Salman," Asin said.

Releasing Oct 30, "London Dreams" is about a band comprising Salman, Ajay Devgan, Asin, Rannvijay Singh and Adithya Roy Kapoor. Asin plays the role of a dancer in the film.

"I wouldn't like it if Gauri left her hair loose... she's so beautiful that I used to stop her wearing mini skirts or T-shirts," Khan said while admitting of being insecure of his relationship when they were dating.

Talking to director Farah Khan on her celebrity chat show Tere Mere Beach Mein, to be broadcast this Sunday on Star Plus, the 43-year-old actor, who married his girlfriend Gauri in 1991, said he was desperately in love with Guari, which made him act in such a "rotten" way.

"But I promised her the minute we married that I'd never behave in such a rotten manner that she would ever feel she was curbed to do anything. I was only insecure till we were married because I didn't know if she belonged to me like I belonged to her," the actor said.

Gauri, who has appeared on the cover of Indian 'Vogue', is considered one of the most stylish women in Bollywood and the actor says even their son hates seeing her in covered outfits.

"Today if she returns from a party wearing a long skirt even Aryan (their son) asks her not to wear it as he doesn't like her in long covered clothes... He considers her the most beautiful and his second choice is Angelina," Khan said.

Washington, May 27 (ANI): Ever imagined reading a book or watching a movie in your car, while your vehicle guides itself through the traffic and navigates on its own? Well, thanks to a new technology called 'autonomous vehicle navigation', this could soon be a reality.

If this technology comes into action, it may also see fleets of self-navigating vehicles for the military operating in war zones.

Keeping this in mind, a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) contest was conducted, which aimed at spurring the development of such technologies.

The DARPA Urban Challenge was held at a former air force base in Victorville, Calif. in late 2007, and offered a 3.5 million dollars purse to competitors who could design the fastest and safest vehicles that could traverse a 60-mile urban course in moving traffic in less than six hours.

The contestant vehicles were unmanned and had to complete a simulated military supply mission, manoeuvring through a mock city environment, avoiding obstacles, merging into moving traffic, navigating traffic circles, and negotiating intersections-all while conforming to California driving rules.

And out of the 89 international teams participating in the contest, only six could make it to the finish line in the allotted time.

The winning vehicle, which finished with the fastest time- an average speed of approximately 13 miles per hour- had Wende Zhang of General Motors as part of its design team.

The GM team incorporated existing technology already offered in some of their vehicles that can assist in parking or detect lane markers and trigger alarms if the drivers are coming too close to the shoulder of the road.

And for the DARPA challenge, they developed a more sophisticated package of sensors that included GPS coupled with a camera and a laser-ranging LIDAR system to guide and correct the vehicle's route through the city.

In Baltimore, Zhang will present GM's patented new methods for detecting lanes and correcting a vehicle's route, which helped them win the challenge.

However, Zhang said that a commercially viable autonomous driving product might still take a decade to hit the markets.

The findings were presented at the 2009 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics/International Quantum Electronics Conference (CLEO/IQEC) at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore. (ANI)

Movie Review:- Aa Dekhen Zara

It's all about a camera that speaks its mind in the future. Wish the film was as far-reaching. Aa Dekhen Zara is a very wannabe kind of thriller. It's slick, yes. But it lacks the zippy zest of a true-blue Hitchcock homage like say Mukul Anand's Aitbaar.

More thanda than cool, more wannabe than slick, the film's most interesting moments come from the way the material is packaged rather than the content's evolution from preamble to climax.

A hip hope carries the narration forward. You wish and pray once, just once, the film's intended mood of spinning a slick yarn would reify. Alas, the plot tilts progressively towards a yawn until we feel we're watching a show that has somewhere forgotten where it wants to go. In fact the second-half gets so tediously convoluted you wonder what the point behind the exercise is.

The supernatural element in the film hinges on the camera telling the future. But beyond a point we stop caring about the next frame let alone the future of the characters.

On the plus side the film's exteriors are super-polished. Full marks to art directors Pradip Jha and Hasina Shaikh for their art work. Jehangir Chowdhury's cinematography adds lustre to lacklustre proceedings.

But who's looking? Aa Dekhen Zara offers nothing more to see than glamorous props and characters who dress with a care that the plot's tension doesn't really warrant. But what the hell, this isn't a realistic film. It's film about a camera with supernatural powers and characters who seem to be casualties of powers that go way beyond the camera.

If we only knew what those powers are.

For Neil Nitin Mukesh this role is an extension of his debut in Johnny Gaddar. In both he plays avaricious contemporary dude who doesn't mind bending the rules of civil living. Rahul Dev is mildly riveting as the arch villain. Wish our cinema had found more space for him.

Bipasha Basu gives her role more of a life beyond the marvels of styling.

Sadly she remains stuck where the film remains. Skin deep.

In the film, Salman plays a love guru who is an expert in matters relating to romance and girl-wooing. Inspired by director Andy Tennant's likable Hollywood hit HITCH [2005; Will Smith, Eva Mendes, Kevin James, Amber Valletta], PARTNER is a true-blue David Dhawan film.

PARTNER is for those seeking non-stop entertainment. It's targeted at those who swear by masala films. Those who want to get transported to a world of make-believe in those 2 hours. It's definitely not for those who actually know what to expect, but pretend to rubbish escapist cinema. Also, it's not for certain critics [looking for art cinema in a masala entertainer] whose star ratings are a much bigger joke than the one David Dhawan.

Prem [Salman Khan] is a 'date doctor' who, for a fee, has helped hundreds of men woo the women of their dreams. In his childhood, he understood a woman's likes and dislikes in food, clothes or men. His aim is to help those men who like or love women, not to take them to bed. Prem discovers that his tried and tested tricks are no match for Naina [Lara Dutta], the one woman he truly loves, who works for a newspaper as a journalist. He comes across Bhaskar [Govinda], who is in love with Priya [Katrina Kaif], the rich and famous daughter of a tycoon [Dilip Tahil]. Prem helps Govinda find his lady love and eventually also finds a soulmate in Naina.

Sanjay Chhel’s dialogues are packed with wit, humour and freshness. Johnny Lal’s cinematography is good. Sajid Wajid’s music has become a hit even before the release of the film. Bosco Caesar’s choreography is lively and refreshing.

Salman Khan, he is one actor who can look good even in the worst of situations. Govinda sets the screen blazing with an incredible performance. Katrina shows her dentist’s efforts in showering a bunch of smiles spread all over the film. Lara Dutta looks gorgeous and pairs off very well with Salman. Suresh Menon and Rajpal Yadav add to the fun elements of this masala entertainer. Child Artist Ali Haji is brilliant in his effort.

On the whole, PARTNER is a winner all the way. But it surely gives you enough reasons to have fun and forget your worries. With the deadly combo of Salman and Govinda matching steps it’s surely a treat you wouldn’t want to give it a miss.
